Two geckos were lazing in the forest when they ran into a badly wounded snake.
After they helped the snake get to the hospital, the grateful snake offered to pay them back.
“I don’t have much to offer, but you know I am the Wizard of Jealousy.”
The two geckos were rather surprised. They had only heard of the Wizard, but nobody had ever met him.
“Wow, what an honor!” said the elder gecko.
“Please, I am beyond thankful,” replied the Wizard. “So tell me something that you are jealous of someone for and I can make that yours.”
“What does it mean?” the younger gecko was quite confused.
“Hmm… last time a sincere woman came to me and said she’s jealous of her husband’s young lover over her youthfulness and beauty,” the Wizard smiled. “Then I swapped the two women’s age and beauty. Her husband went back to her and fell in love again.”
“Ah of course …” the elder gecko shook his head. “Human beings are always so shallow and stupid. Dear Wizard, please, I am jealous of the birds in the sky. I want to have wings and fly.”
“That’s easy,” the Wizard responded happily.
Suddenly, a bat fell to the ground and became a rat; meanwhile, the elder gecko grew a pair of wings and became a Draco lizard.
Seeing his elder brother gliding in the air joyously, the younger brother laughed. “See, my brother has always been a simple guy. I am quite different.”
“Really?” the Wizard was intrigued. “Tell me then. I can make anything happen as long as you are genuinely jealous.”
“OK. I am really jealous of the golden tortoise.”
“For what?” the Wizard was surprised at the answer.
“His shell is made of gold,” answered the younger gecko.
“And… you want that?”
“All right, my child,” the Wizard replied peacefully.
Right away, a golden tortoise was ejected from his shell and became a frog.
The heavy shell then dropped on the poor younger gecko and crippled him instantly.
Jealousy is OK.
Jealousy over things that are never supposed to be yours is not.
